Tribute 3: Blue Beetle #2 “The Gin Conspiracy”

What do you mean Gin is bad?

Those of you who have sat at my bar know my love of Gin. I suggest it as an opening move, closing remark and as a mosquito repellant. I love the stuff, which on an island built on Rum, can be a hard sell sometimes.

So sometimes, I gotta be sneaky. Which is where Doug Winship from The Pegu Blog has come in handy.

Doug’s post for this April’s Mixology Monday caught my eye as a great drink to introduce those Gin-frightened fellows to try something new.

The Blue Beetle #2

Blue Beetle #2

  • 1 1/2 oz Tanqueray 10 Gin
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 oz Blueberry Syrup
  • 3 dashes Fee’s Grapefruit Bitters
Doug writes with a remarkable style. For one who doesn’t control the stick day to day he seems to have a firm grasp of the perils of contemporary bartending. (and the political travails that affect us drinkslinger & business owners)
Also, his Four Gospels of Cocktails should be a mandatory read for all rookie bartenders. (To wit, I included them in my curriculum for Project Bartender last year)
I had the pleasure of meeting Doug at Tales of the Cocktail this year. Good guy, great drink.
