Life at the Kids Table

Life at the Kids TableThanksgiving is upon us and as I have yet to perfect my distilled TurDuckEn (one day, by god… one day) I decided to make another drink to play on those youthful memories of being ushered out of the kitchen on Thanksgiving morning with a finger’s swipe full of mashed potatoes, gleeful at my expanding appetite (and in turn, ahem, belly).

Life at the Kids Table

Oh, the agony of sitting with your younger siblings at the smaller table. The one less fortified, that without heaping mounds of Sweet potatoes, Mashers, moms fresh sourdough bread and the holy grail of my heart, the rich turkey gravy boat. (what, I’m a fat kid) Suffering through the kid sized dollops while, one thanksgiving at a family friends house, I watched as my chance at seconds were secured as the adults passed a heavy brown bottle of Tres Generaciones, thankfully blurring their senses enough for me to swipe through the taters, turkey and cranberry sauce before they knew what hit ‘em.

With that idea, I give you the sorta sweet, sorta savory, delicious as pie Life at the Kids Table

(Tanqueray Gin, Cranberry puree, Cranberry Soda, Lime, Angosturra bitters)

Whatcha need

Tanqueray Gin

Bag of Cranberries

1 cup sugar, 1 tsp sugar

3 cups H2O

1 egg (whites)

1 lime

Angostura Bitters

isi Soda Siphon (optional)

Take your Cranberries, H20, and sugar and combine them in a saucepot. Bring to a boil then reduce to medium heat.

Stir occasionally, watch as your cranberries start to pop as they heat up!

Reduce your mix by a third then remove from heat and strain your cranberry mash and set aside. Place your fresh cranberry juice in the fridge to cool.

Now, puree your cranberry mash in a blender adding 2oz of gin (to help preserve it) for about a minute.

So, I prefer to carbonate my cranberry juice (now soda) with my isi Soda Siphon, but it’s not necessary for this drink to be gulpable. Just add a touch of soda water.

Let’s Build It!

2oz Tanqueray Gin

2 tblsp Cranberry Puree

2 0z Cranberry Soda

1/2 lime juice

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Combine over ice in a tumbler and give it a hard shake for about thirty seconds. Pour without straining into a rocks glass.

Now, we’re almost done! Here’s the best part, the frothy moustache making top!

Take your egg white and 1 tspn of sugar and shake in your tumbler (no ice!) until it looks nice and frothy. Pour on top of your cocktail and garnish with a dollop of cranberry puree.

Enjoy! Happy Thanksgiving!
