Tales Part 2 The Doll & Strange Weather
Continuing on with my gushfest of all things Tales of the Cocktail related, I want to introduce to you a few of the people that made my New Orleans experience taste so much brighter.
First up, the aptly named Chad Doll of Bryants Cocktail Lounge in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
I’m not sure I remember correctly how Chad and I first ran into each other, but it’s safe to assume there was whisky involved.
I recalled Chad from the Imbibe Magazine article about his win in a Drambuie competition some months back. In fact I remember it well because I thought, “there are bars in Milwaukee that serve something other than Miller High Life?”
Rumors are unconfirmed as of what kind of “Sausage Race” Chad had to win in the preliminary rounds. I like this idea best.
Chad is an all around good guy and from the looks of his bio, a respectable papa as well.

Here’s Chad’s winning entry (stolen directly from the Imbibe website):
Strange Weather
This recipe, from Milwaukee bartender Chad Doll, won the 2009 DrambuieĀ® Den national cocktail competition. It’s a smooth, balanced cocktail that perfectly highlights the spicy, herbal qualities of Drambuie.
2 oz. dry gin
3/4 oz. Drambuie
3/4 oz. Cherry Heering
1 oz. fresh orange juice
3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz. agave nectar
Tools: shaker, strainer
Glass: coupe
Garnish: 3 drops Angostura bitters and an orchid flower
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously, strain into a chilled glass and garnish.
